What is preventive care?

Preventive care includes conversations about health risks, screening and ways to stay well. Screening looks for certain conditions before symptoms appear. Which tests are appropriate depends on your circumstances and current guidance; a generic checklist cannot replace an individual discussion with your clinician.

Screening is a conversation, not a shopping list

Bring the dates and results of previous screening tests when you have them. Mention relevant family history and questions about benefits, limitations and next steps. New symptoms belong in their own discussion, even if you also have a routine preventive visit planned.

Questions for your preventive visit

• Which screenings are appropriate for my age, history and risk factors?
• Are my vaccination records complete, and what should we review?
• What are the possible benefits and downsides of a proposed test?
• Where will a test take place, and how will I receive the result?
• If we defer a test, when should we discuss it again?

Organize the practical details in Miami

Check with the office and your insurer about the visit type, covered services and any separate laboratory or imaging arrangements. A wellness visit and a visit for a new concern may involve different arrangements. Confirm details directly rather than relying on an online directory.

Leave with a clear next step

Write down what was agreed, any records still needed and the expected follow-up. Ask whom to contact if results have not arrived within the time the office gave you. Keep copies of reports so future conversations can build on the same history.
